"I love when students get to participate in life changing events. Sometimes we all live in our own pity party and we need the realization that there is a bigger world besides our own. By touching the lives of a survivor our students can see the bigger picture and understand what volunteerism is and how they can be life changers. That's what this industry is about."

"On June 3rd, 2014 International Salon and Spa Academy participated in Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day. This is a day we invite cancer fighters and survivors in for complementary services. This was the first year the Academy has participated in this special day. We offered something for everyone! Facials, manicures, pedicures, razor shaves, haircuts and styles. The Academy's students performed 20 services to fighters and survivors."
The day was magical. There was just something special about the whole feeling in the Academy. Many students performed the services and did not even know they had a survivor in their loving touch until after the client checked out. The students loved spending time with each person and with each person they realized some things they go through in life are not half as hard as what some of these fighters are or have gone through.
Cancer Survivor Support Beauty Day is a day we will continue to participate in. It not only touches the lives of the fighters and survivors but the students and staff. A Father of a young man fighting leukemia said his son enjoyed his first facial, first manicure and pedicure. His father said he enjoyed being treated like he is normal. Many of the guests that took part in the event said it was very nice to be recognized and thought of. One even said she felt much younger and stronger.
Giving back to our community is a huge part of this industry. We not only touch hair, skin, hands and feet, but we touch lives and sometimes just a caring touch can be more healing than one knows."

So very thankful for my Son Damien, also my Hairstylist!
He was "there" at a moment's notice throughout my time with cancer... giving of himself, full of encouragement, full of concern. When chemo became rougher, my hair was beginning to thin out, he re-styled it. We talked, shopped for wigs, prepared for the moment... I was lucky, that moment didn't come.... but we we ready.... Damien was "there" cheering me on, styling my hair, always uplifting my spirits.
Now, 5 1/2 years later, the cancer is clear!! And Damien is "here" giving me a haircut, making me shine, cheering me on!

Vanguard College of Cosmetology Interview with 4WWL TVDear Team,
I wanted to share our experience with you from Tuesday's Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day. We had an amazing time. I have received many amazing compliments from our Survivor Friends over the last 2 days. We partnered with our favorite local charity, Carolina Breast Friends and did hundreds of services. We offered massages, aromatherapy, Hair/Wigs, Facials, manicures and makeup. We even had sponsors that contributed snacks for our survivors.
Thank you all for your work on this. It is an amazing annual project. I am already looking forward to next year. We are looking to do something similar for next Ann Bowler Day. Please let me know if you need anything in the future. We always appreciate being a part of projects like these. Be well.
